Together towards a non-toxic aquatic environment
The AQuA project focuses on co-creating & using new citizen science tools which measure environmental endpoints not typically studied by citizen science to better understand chemical and microbial contaminants in Yorkshire’s rivers and lakes via excellent, inclusive, and engaged environmental science.
Yorkshire has nearly 1,000 rivers and lakes - and not one currently meets good chemical or ecological status
Pollution from sewage, chemicals and everyday products can harm wildlife, our recreation spaces, and even drinking water sources
AQuA, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is developing novel tools and methods to involve communities in monitoring and protecting these water bodies
